My kids figured out long ago that we have a weakness for books. So they exploit that at every opportunity to extend bedtime, put off cleaning their room, etc. The only saving grace is that they have the same weakness. If there’s anything I’ve done as a parent that I’m proud of, it’s having turned “Or you won’t get your book” into a threat.
